  Grades
The reaming heads are available in grade IC908 which is a submicron substrate and TiAlN PVD coated. IC908 is ISCAR’s most versatile grade, covering a wide range of workpiece materials and machining conditions. IC908 features very high fracture and wear resistance which is required for efficient high speed reaming. A special coating process of the TiAlN PVD coating ensures very accurate and uniform coating thickness and a sharp cutting edge.
The following grades can be provided on request:
• PCD grade for machining aluminum.
• PCBN grade for machining cast iron.

Asymmetric Tooth Spacing
The flute distribution of the BAYO T-REAM is asymmetric, which improves the precision of hole roundness and cylindricity. However, two cutting edges are opposite (180º) to enable measuring the diameter (measuring by mechanical means should be avoided, as it may damage the cutting edges). The opposite flutes are indicated by two arrows on the reamer head face.

Back Taper
The back diameter of the reamer head is 0.01-0.02 mm smaller than the front diameter. This back taper prevents the reamer from being seized, as well as lowering reaming forces and improving surface quality. Incorrect back taper may cause instable reaming, accelerated wear and rough surface finish.

Coolant
Cooling efficiency in reaming has a crucial influence on the hole accuracy and quality.
As in every other machining operation, the role of the coolant is to cool the cutting edge, which reduces wear, thus maintaining the required size and surface finish for a longer time.
The coolant helps to flush the chips out. This is vital in blind holes where it is necessary to prevent the chips from being confined in the flutes, which damages the surface quality.
Proper lubrication of the cylindrical guiding zone is a vital factor which influences wear. This affects hole size and surface quality.
ISCAR recommends applying high coolant pressure and using a 10-12% emulsion concentration, which is double the concentration used for other applications.
